- Limit abnormal or excessive anatomical movement.

A variety of tapes can be used in sports taping: zinc oxide (rigid, non-elastic); elastic adhesive bandage (EAB); cohesive bandage (compression); kinesiology tape. The type of tape used in sports taping will depend upon the area of the body to be taped and also the reason for using the tape, for example, zinc oxide limits movement more than EAB or kinesiology tape.
Taping should be used in conjunction with a rehabilitation program that is aimed at reducing inflammation and restoring range of motion, strength, and proprioception.
